Generous Success

For our own success to be real, it must contribute to the success of others. — Eleanor Roosevelt In Invisible Acts of Power,ย Caroline Myss, Ph.D.ย says there is a fundamental aspect of human nature that needs to reach out to others. Documentaries on BBCโsย Planet Earthย andย National Geographic Wildย show that other mammals have the same capacity. [Perhaps someย aves, feathered creatures, and aquatic vertebrates too.] The ways humansย choose toย be generous [now that weโre building skyscrapers and space ships] sets us apart. We can give for many reasons, which could — let’s face the truth — be selfish, ego boosting acts. We achieve magnificence when, as Myss wrote, โThe warm glow we get from helping others is not just a good physical feeling โ it is the energy of a healing grace that moves between the giver and the receiver and blesses both.โ Blessย means to โinvoke divine favor.โ Bless involves a mutually and spiritually elevating sharing. Bullies

Updated April 11, 2024 No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. — Eleanor Roosevelt M. Scott Peckโs book The Road Less Traveled,ย opens with, โLife is difficult.โ Until then, I thought life was supposed to be pleasant, despite all evidence to the contrary. Peck, a psychiatrist, further wrote, โOnce we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it … the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.โ Ideally. Maybe. Mrs. Rooseveltโs words recalled an episode ofย National Geographic Wildโsย Dog Impossible.ย When attacked by a mean, aggressive bully hound, Pierre a handsome husky, barked back, as though saying, โYouโve got your nerve. You need to take that stupidity somewhere else.โย See Pierre in actionย [Facebook]. Pierre knew a tyrant when he heard-saw one and did not allow oppression.ย But some donโt recognize browbeaters or second-guess whether theyโre being intimidated, in part because there are several types: Physical: When someone tries to physically control another person Verbal: Name calling and teasing Cyber: Hurting others from behind social media screens Emotional: Calculated social manipulation that leaves targeted peopleย feeling isolated and alone. Prejudicial: Attacking those who look or act different. Sexual: Acts that humiliate, shame or physically assaultย another sexually or their sexuality.
