Einstein #9: Past, Present, Future > Illusion

The distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion. โ€ฆ the only reason for time is so that everything doesnโ€™t happen at once.ย ย  – Albert Einstein In trying to understand how everything could happen at once, I watched this postโ€™s video, below. [More of my hairs silvered in the process.] What I learned is: Einstein was explaining what โ€˜nowโ€™ means. In the end [if endings are possible], I could accept that the past is never gone and the future always exists. Everything that ever or will occur is happening โ€˜now,โ€™ somewhere. Thatโ€™s a shivery thought. I want more good โ€˜nows!โ€™ At 5:37 this morning, Pittsburgh time, Earthโ€™s tilt allowed less darkness and more sunlight to brighten this hemisphere for the next 90 days โ€ฆ or eternally. Because the passage of time is suggested by distances travelled [from lunch to dinner, from winter to spring], the words of the starship USS Enterpriseโ€™s Captain Picard are worth remembering, โ€œMake now the most precious time.โ€ย  [โ€œThe Inner Light,โ€ย Season 5, Episode 25] By the way, tomorrow [March 21] isย International Day of Forests.ย Enjoy one or a few. Plant a tree and start your own! Blessings & best wishes. ***** Imagine these events as always โ€˜now.โ€™ In 2010, Nintendo trademarked the phrase โ€œItโ€™s on like Donkey Kong.โ€ Back when dinosaurs existed, volcanoes were erupting on the moon. In 1982, A Japanese company opened schools that teach people to be funny. About 1,000 students enroll each year. The Roman โ€“ Persian wars are the longest in history, lasting over 680 years. They began in 54 BC and ended in 628 AD.

Einstein #8: Truth and Beauty

The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives. – Albert Einstein Today, March 13, is Percival Lowellโ€™s birthday In 1905, he started looking for a planet beyond Neptune. Lowell spent the next eleven years in lengthy mathematical and sky searches for the elusive โ€œtrans-Neptunianโ€ planet. Fourteen years after he died, Pluto was found. In 2006, the International Astronomical Union redefined planets and stripped Pluto of that title. Interestingly, by the IAUโ€™s criteria, Earth could also be demoted. According to that organization, a planet must: Orbit a star Have enough mass to achieve hydrostatic equilibrium [big enough to become a sphere, or round] and Clear debris from its path.. Though Earthโ€™s highway through the sky is messy, we escape the title โ€œdwarf planetโ€ because of a better vacuuming system during babyhood than Pluto’sย  [a/k/a accretion].ย ย Read more.ย For more reasons than avoiding the name ‘puny,’ obstacle-removal is important for all journeys. This week offers great opportunities to take Einsteinโ€™s advice atop this post. ย In addition to Percy Lowellโ€™s birthday, March 13 is also Good Samaritan Day. The 17thย ย celebrates St. Patrick, a man praised for sweeping the snakes from Ireland. ย The 19thย calls all gigglers, cacklers, chortlers and belly laughers to celebrate โ€œNational Letโ€™s Laugh Day,โ€ Enjoy!

Einstein #2: Gift of Fantasy

The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge. – Albert Einstein During my childhood, I liked Saturday morning cartoons like Mighty Mouse [“Here I come to save the day!”] and Bugs Bunny. At night, I always enjoyed Hollywood musicals likeย The King and I,ย Oklahomaย andย State Fair. There were so many fabulous songs. A favorite is fromย South Pacificโ€™sย โ€œHappy Talk,โ€ which says, You gotta have a dream, if you don’t have a dream, How you gonna have a dream come true?ย ย Listen here. In the United States on this coming Tuesday, some will watch a ground hog to learn how much longer winter will last. Because February 2ndย is halfway between Solstice and Equinox, winter will always last six more weeks, whether or not that chubby critter sees its shadow. Ancient cultures celebrate this mid-winter event as a time to โ€œwash the Earthโ€™s face,โ€ a time to clean all thatโ€™s become old and haggard so that fresh, pure possibilities can shine. This week, why not fantasize about 2021? Pick three, wonderful dreams. Write them each morning. See what comes true, what gifts arrive by yearโ€™s end.   The gold in Earthโ€™s core could cover every inch of this planet [the oceans, mountains and continents] with a four-foot-thick layer of that shining metal. ย ย Source Over 13 billion years after the universe was born, that birth can be watched in the static on television.ย ย Source Iโ€™ve heard thereโ€™s more space between the stars than between the particles in atoms. I just read that โ€“ if the contents of the atoms from all 7.8 billion people on Earth were gathered, that mass would fill an apple. Essentially, weโ€™re 99.99999% empty space.ย Source Diamonds and Triangles Baby Quilt & Wall Hanging Diamonds and Trianglesย is my one-of-a-kind, reversible, dual-purpose 24โ€ณ x 36โ€ณ quilt designed to both cuddle babies and display as wall art.
