Thrive! offers insights into practices that can improve life. This post explores memory.

Harvard Medical School explains, โ€œmemory is our ability to recall information,โ€ in these two ways.  Short Term holds facts needed for a few seconds [like traffic before crossing a street]. Long Term keeps the data โ€œthat makes you you,โ€ like loved ones and home location.  The Harvard post adds,

Like the rest of our bodies, our brains change with age, meaning that most of us will find ourselves struggling to recall newly learned information or even to think of words we know well. … With age, both the brain’s chemistry and the structural integrity of the neurons’ wiring deteriorate.

In โ€œMemory Loss: 7 Tips to Improve Memory,โ€ MayoClinic.org  suggests:

  • Daily physical activity
  • Mental stimulants [crossword puzzles, reading, volunteering]
  • Socializing
  • Keeping organized and avoiding distractions
  • Restful sleep
  • Quality diet
  • Attend to chronic health problems [especially high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, hearing loss and obesity]

Healthline.com adds โ€œ14 Natural Ways to Improve Your Memory,โ€ including,

  • Reduce sugar
  • Try fish oil
  • Meditate
  • Practice mindfulness, stay in present moment
  • Maintain a moderate weight
  • Limit alcohol
  • Reduce refined carbs
  • Get enough Vitamin D [from sunlight and other sources]
  • Eat anti-inflammatory foods like blueberries, leafy greens and extra virgin olive oil. Here’s a list
  • Consider curcumin [a compound in turmeric root]
  • Enjoy dark chocolate

When considering memory supplements, WiseLifestyle.com  cautions that some companies make โ€œexaggerated claims โ€ฆ not all of which are likely.โ€ The site notes โ€œWarning Signs of Potential Scams, when to expect results, and top picks for 2025. The article also lists and explains these five, must-have ingredients for memory supplements:

  1. Alpha GPC
  2. Huperzine A
  3. Hericium Erinaceus
  4. Bacopa Monnieri
  5. Ginkgo biloba

they are memories and moments.
