Consider I love the way that each book — any book — is its own journey. You open it, and off you go. — Sharon Creech When in my twenties, Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich struck me as tedious. This realization helped me recognize the importance of living wisely, being less greedy, and working hard while enjoying life with extreme gratitude. Also the importance of believing and gaining enough knowledge to one day “Retire Young and Retire Rich.” The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams by Deepak Chopra“Relinquish your attachment to the known, step into the unknown, and you will step into the field of all possibilities.” One BJ Insight: The art of detachment has been something I’ve heard with the connotation, “Denounce the world and all that’s in it.”Fortunately, meditation guru Jay Shetty was my professor in this concept. He reinforced what The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success teaches, “True detachment is when you are close to everything and not letting it consume and own you.” Another BJ Insight: This book reminds me to be introspective and grounded, to seek and answer the life-changing questions that can give my life meaning, purpose and definition. What BJ liked about The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success : I love any book that incorporates wisdom. It makes me snicker because my middle name is Solomon.The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success is not just about financial or physical, or mental success. It’s about the focus that leads to self discovery, the cultivation and nurturing of the person you truly want to be. A true friend is someone who is there for you when he’d rather be anywhere else. 3rd Path to Joy 2023, Words
Our words have creative power. With our words, we can speak blessings over our future. – Joel Osteen While all twelve Paths to Joy provide great insights, a favorite of mine is the third. As Don Miguel Ruiz said in Paths to Joy 2020, “each of us live in worlds built by our words.” Of words, Pearl Strachan Hurd said, “Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs.” Sigmund Freud said, “Words have magical power. They can either bring the greatest happiness or the deepest despair. “ Joyce Meyer added, “Words are containers for power, you choose what kind of power they carry.” Affirmations are words spoken or thought over and over. Louise Hay believed every word we think or speak is an affirmation and that affirmations create life experiences. She recommended using affirmations to: change unpleasant things and create delight. Her web site posts daily affirmations. Today’s is: Abundance flows freely through me. The We Spot reminds words can shape the future because they: Attack [create hostile environments] Attach [stick for a long time, even affecting future generations], and Acquire [attract conditions and circumstances] “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Of this text, Law of Attraction wrote, We could all learn something from this well-known Bible verse. Looking beyond the religious overtones, there is a message to be found in this for everyone. Everything begins with a word. Words consist of vibration and sound. It is these vibrations that create the very reality that surrounds us. Words are the creator; the creator of our universe, our lives, our reality. Law of Attraction also suggests words can bring joy by choosing them wisely, picking words that praise you and selecting words that can deliver happiness. Read more. Consider Rejected pieces aren’t failures; unwritten pieces are. – Greg Daugherty Huffington Post reported that Dr. Seuss was so disappointed after 27 children’s book publishers rejected his first story, he was about to burn the manuscript when an old friend from Vanguard Press agreed to publish And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street. Imagine a world without a book called “too different” and “silly.” We may never have had Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in The Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, What Was I Scared of? and Oh, The Places You’ll Go. Stephen King’ wrote four novels that were refused before Carrie was accepted. King didn’t mention how many rejections he received but ‘a book that’s inspired millions,’ Robert Pirsig’s Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was turned down 120 times. Writers Write reported Beatrix Potter ultimately published The Tale of Peter Rabbit herself. Chicken Soup for the Soul was snubbed 134 times. But the record holder must be William Saroyan. The author of The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze and The Trouble With Tigers claimed 7,000 refusals before selling his first short story. Rejection is part of life. For writers, perhaps more than most. J. K. Rowling fans know her Harry Potter story got the cold shoulder a dozen times. Editors thought the magical book was too long for young readers. Madeline L’Engle’s masterpiece A Wrinkle in Time was rejected 26 times, yet went on to win the Newberry Medal. Tony Hillerman’s writing reflects his admiration for indigenous people, especially the Navajo. But on his way to producing best-sellers, Hillerman was told to ‘get rid of the Indian stuff.’ Here’s what successful authors have said about being turned down: “I discovered that rejections are not altogether a bad thing.
